Otters eliminated from CCAA Championships, look to NCAA West Regionals

ARCATA, Calif. --- CSU Monterey Bay lost their third game of the CCAA Softball Championships to the Coyotes of CSU San Bernardino 0-8 and dropped out of the double elimination tournament with a record of 1-2. Though posting five hits their four errors proved too costly in the game.

The Otters were led in hitting by #Homa Shaffii# (2-2) with two singles, while #Shae Olds#, #Marisa Trujillo# and #Ashlee Trotter# each contributed with one hit each. #Jessica Boyle# (7-8) took the loss and gave up only two earned runs from the mound.

With the game starting out slow, the Coyotes took an early lead in the third behind a Debbie Shisler double. A single from Jordan Dahl then drove her in. They would then score again in the fourth and fifth behind the bats of Tori Beaudette, Jacquelyn Holtzclaw, Priscilla Curiel, and Sara Bird.

CSUMB started momentum in the fourth after a two-out double from Trujillo. #Katie Murray# then came in to pinch run and advanced to third after a single from Trotter. However the inning soon ended after a infield pop from #Rachelle Morales#.

From the mound Boyle pitched an impressive game with four strikeouts compared to only two on the part of the Coyotes. Cassidy Lee (8-8) picked up the win for San Bernardino after four innings pitched. Tawni Baker came in the fifth to pitch relief.

With the loss the Otters fall to 35-24 while CSUSB moves to 34-19-1 and will now face CSU Stanislaus (29-21) in the final games of the CCAA Softball Championships. The Otters can now look to continue the success of the season as they will compete in the NCAA West Regionals. Game play begins Wednesday, May 7 in Arcata, CA.
