Softball team loses to CSU Stanislaus 8-4, moves to 1-1 in CCAA Championships

Shae Olds makes contact against CSU San Bernardino
ARCATA, Calif. --- Despite strong batting performances in the fifth and sixth innings, the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team fell to the Warriors of #19 Cal State Stanislaus 8-4 today in the second round of the CCAA Softball Championships. #Angela Cabral# took the loss giving up two earned runs.

The loss put an end to the Otter's impressive 9-game winning streak this season, their highest streak yet. While CSUMB earned all four of their runs they could not capitalize off the success of the previous days win against Humboldt State and gave up five earned runs to the Warriors. The Otters registered 5 hits , 4 RBI's and 1 home-run throughout the game.

CSUMB registered no hits until the fifth inning when #Shae Olds# hit her sixth home run of the season to put one on the board for the Otters. #Alma Lopez# scored the second run that inning after pinch running for #Marisa Trujillo# who posted a single to get on base. Lopez was then driven in by a #Rachelle Morales# single.

The Warriors started the game out early with Jennifer Arnold scoring a run in the second after reaching on a throwing error and again in the third when Alyssa Guzman, Arnold and Casey Stephenson scored after a Jessica Scholl single.

Stanislaus would go on to score two more runs in the sixth which CSUMB answered with two of their own. #Megan Luna# scored first after hitting a deep double and taking home with the help of #Alixis Villarin# who grounded out to second base. After #Homa Shafii# reached first on a walk she reached home on a Olds ground out.

The Otters effort in the seventh was not enough to turn around the game as the lone hit, a single by #Ashlee Trotter# could not produce any results. The Warriors finished their at bats with a home run in the seventh by both Guzman and Scholl to bring their score to 8.

Cabral (20-8) started on the mound for the Otters and pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs. #Jessica Boyle# (7-7) came in the third to pitch relief of 1 1/3 innings and allowed no earned runs. The game finished with #Noemi Torres# (9-6) coming in to pitch in the fifth. She allowed three earned runs.

With the loss the Otters move to 35-23 while the Warriors move to 29-21. CSUMB will now face CSU San Bernardino (33-29-1) in the third round of the championships. First pitch beings shortly. Live stats for the game are available here.
