Otters take two more in Tournament of Champions

Defeat Hawai'i Pacific and Chaminade University

TURLOCK, Calif. --- The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team completed a four-game sweep of pool play in the first two days of  the Tournament of Champions at CSU Stanislaus on Saturday, defeating Hawaii Pacific 2-1 in eight innings and then cruising past Chaminade University 8-0.

#Marisa Trujillo# singled in #Megan Luna# in the 8th as Cal State Monterey Bay rallied to edge Hawaii Pacific 2-1. After HPU took a 1-0 lead in the  seventh, Monterey Bay tied the score when pinch runner Channing Peebles reached home on a Shae Olds' single. Trujillo finished with two hits for CSUMB. #Angela Cabral# (12-6) got the win with the four-hitter.

CSUMB finished the day with an easy 8-0 victory over Chaminade. The Otters scored seven runs in the first inning and the game was called after five. #Jill Artoff# went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs. #Jessica Boyle# (4-6) pitched five scoreless innings for the victory; #Shea Olds# and #Rachelle Morales# both had a pair of RBIs.

The Otters open play Sunday in the Gold Pool with a game against Seattle University at 11:15 a.m. If they win that game, they would have to win one more to reach the championship game. Hawaii Pacific plays Humboldt State in the first round and CCAA rivals CSU Dominguez Hills and Stanislaus are also in the Gold Pool.
