CHICO --- CHICO --- The Otters did not give up an earned run all day but still split their two games as Cal State Monterey Bay lost to Chico State 3-1 and defeated Sonoma State 8-0 Saturday in a mini-tournament at Chico.
Game 1 starter #Noemi Torres# (6-3) took the loss despite giving up just three hits and one walk. Chico scored three unearned runs in the third on two hits and three errors by the Otters. CSUMB's only run of the game came in the first inning when leadoff batter #Casey Kaufman# walked, stole second and ran home on a Megan Luna single.
But CSUMB's bats were plenty hot in the second game and pitcher #Angela Cabral# had an easy time, giving up just two hits after five innings when the game was called. She walked four batters and struck out three.
The Otters scored six in the fourth to put the game away. #Alixis Villarin# and Kaufman started the inning off with back-to-back doubles. Two batters later, #Homa Shafii# hit another double to score two more runs and #Shea Olds# would later hit the fourth double in the inning to score the fifth and sixth runs.
The Otters (16-12, 9-7 in the CCAA) are at home next week with six games against Humboldt State University. The two teams will play doubleheaders on Friday, Saturday at 1 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday at 11 a.m.
