Second game of doubleheader suspended due to darkness

ROHNERT PARK --- Cal State Monterey Bay's softball team traveled to Sonoma State State to kick off CCAA conference play Friday, succumbing to a late rally to lose the first game 3-6; game two was halted due to darkness in the 7th inning with the Otters trailing 3-5.  The game will be resumed at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by another doubleheader.

In the first inning of game one, the Seawolves threatened first after drawing a walk and a single.  With runners on the corners, Dani Lopez hit into a fielder's choice double play turned by #Ashlee Trotter# at third base and #Alixis Villarin# to end the inning.

The Seawolves scored in the second inning when Ashley Eisemann led off with a double and later scored after Britni Geary hit a single down the left line.  The Otters struck back in the top of the third after Villarin reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error made by the SS.  Centerfielder #Casey Kaufman# hit a blooper into short right field easily scoring Villarin from second base.  But the Seawolves refused to stay quiet. Megan Ochylski led off the inning with a double to right centerfield and scored after Dani Lopez hit a two run shot over the centerfield fence.  After the homerun, #Jessica Boyle# came in relief and closed out the inning for Angela Cabral.

In the top of the fifth inning, #Rochelle Morales# was hit by a pitch and later replaced by #Erica Wacker#.  After a sacrifice bunt by #Easton Henrickson#, Villarin singled to centerfield sending Wacker home.  The Otters didn't stop there. In the sixth, #Homa Shafii# led off with a single to centerfield and stole second.  Kristen Rasmussen hit a ground ball to SS, but the first baseman made an error, scoring Shafii.

With the score 3-3 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Otters were able to get two outs on the Seawolves with bases loaded.  However, with a full count Nicole Cordova hit a double to right centerfield, scoring three runs.  Villerin and Kaufmann hit consecutive singles in the top of the seventh, however Simone Brandalise was able to end the game with a fly out to second base.

Kaufman led the Otter offense going 2 for 4 with an RBI and Villerin went 2 for 3, scoring a run and an RBI.  Shafii also went 1 for 3, scored a run, and had the only stolen base on the afternoon.  The Seawolves were led by Nicole Cordova who went 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs and Megan Ochlyski went 3 for 4.  Simone Brandalise (2-0) received the win after throwing a complete game scattering five hits and three runs.  Jessica Boyle (0-1) was charged with the loss after pitching four innings of work.
