Women want to end season on winning note

Last two home games are Wednesday and Thursday

The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team will wrap up its season with home games against San Francisco State on Wednesday and UC San Diego on Thursday.

It has been a difficult year for the Otters (3-21 overall, 2-16 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association), but there have been some highlights. Junior forward Dana Andrews is averaging 19.1 points per game and scored 41, the highest total of any player in the CCAA this season, to lead CSUMB over CSU Dominguez Hills on Jan. 22. The Otters narrowly lost to Chico State, the 21st ranked team in the country, 67-73 on Feb. 9 at home. CSUMB point guard Alma Lopez made nine steals that game, the most this season in the CCAA. The Otters started the season 1-1 in the CCAA . This week they will close the season with two of the conference's better teams.

Wednesday, CSUMB will face San Francisco State (10-8 in the CCAA). Krystle Mays, a 5-11 junior, leads the Gators in scoring with 12.4 points per game. Senior 5-10 forward Brio Rode (10.4) and 6' 1” freshman center Dominique Hunter (10) are also averaging double figures in points.

UC San Diego is currently third in the CCAA at 12-6. The Tritons are lead by Meaghan Noud (16.8 points per game) and Michelle Osier (14.2 points per game). Osier is also averaging over 10 rebounds a game.

 In their previous meetings this season, the Otters lost to SFSU 72-78 on Jan. 23 and fell 51-68 to UC San Diego on Jan. 26. Andrews scored 22 against the Gators, but had to leave the game early with a sprained ankle. Lopez scored 12 and made nine assists. Rode led SFSU with 20 points.

 Andrews was still out when the team played UC San Diego and Brittany Kikuchi came off the bench to lead the Otters in scoring with 14. Osier had 13 points and 20 rebounds for the Titans. Noud scored 22.
