SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team dropped a 5-2 decision to Cal State San Bernardino in a CCAA conference match-up on Sunday at Coyote Premier Field. The Otters are now 1-6-4 (1-4-3 CCAA) as the Coyotes improve to 5-6-1 (4-3-1).
The Coyotes opened the scoring on a one-touch goal by sophomore Albert Cabrera in the seventh minute.
Senior #Nick McGill# tied the game on a one-touch goal in the 17th minute on a pass from sophomore #Andy Binol#. This was McGill's third goal of the season.
CSUSB responded in the 37th minute with a goal by sophomore Jorge Aguirre on a low shot inside the near post to take a 2-1 lead at halftime.
The Coyotes made it 3-1 nine minutes into the second half on a goal by Godinez.
The Otters closed the gap to 3-2 in the 59th minute. Freshman #Beau Villanueva# converted a penalty kick for his first goal in his collegiate career.
CSUSB's Obi Agwu scored two more goals to give the Coyotes a 5-2 victory.
The Otters were outshot by San Bernardino 16-9. CSUMB goalkeeper #Sam Campanelli# had six saves while Arath DeLaRocha stopped three Otter shots.
"The players gave their all but five consecutive overtimes took its toll," said head coach
Artie Cairel. "Nothing against our opponent but we just hit a wall."
Cal State Monterey Bay faces San Francisco State University on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Cox Stadium. Kick-off is at 3:00 p.m.
