SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team was defeated by the Sonoma State Seawolves 5-1, today at the Otter Soccer Complex.
The Otters dropped to 1-17-1 overall and 0-13 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
The Seawolves scored within the first minute of the game when junior Lindsay Catton drilled the ball from 30-yards out. Five minutes later, Sonoma State found the scoreboard again when freshman Taylor Edmonds fired a shot past junior goalkeeper #Annie Bordwell# to find the back of the net.
The score would remain 2-0 for much of the first half, but two more Sonoma goals in the last 12 minutes widen the Seawolves lead to 4-0. Edmonds scored her second goal of the game on an intercepted Otter's attempt to clear the ball from the penalty box. Freshman Katie Parucha scored in the 41st minute.
Sonoma's final goal came from sophomore Ali Cheadle who scored on a pass by sophomore Jaci Davey at the beginning of the second half.
The Otters prevented a shutout when junior #Alyssa Matheson# scored on her own rebounded shot at the 75-minute mark.
Bordwell finished with eight saves as the Seawolves outshot CSUMB 19-8.
