LA JOLLA, Calif. --- Missing their best player due to injury, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team fell to UC San Diego 68-51 Saturday night.
The starting five scored just 21 points without #Dana Andrews#, who regularly scores that many by herself. She sprained her ankle during a loss to San Francisco State on Wednesday night and scored 22. Trying to make up for her absence, #Sabrina Jenkins# and #Britnea Moore# came off the bench to score 14 and 12 respectively. Point guard #Alma Lopez# led the team in rebounds with six to go along with her 11 points and five assists.
With the loss CSUMB falls to 2-15 overall and 1-9 in California Collegiate Athletic Association. UC San Diego improved its record to 15-5 overall and 7-3 in the CCAA. Meaghan Noud led the Tritons with 22 points. Michelle Osier had 20 rebounds and 13 points.
The Otters trailed 28-25 at the half, staying close primarily because of Jenkins, who had 10 points before the break while hitting all four of her shots. But in the end, the Otters shot just 29 percent and were outrebounded 40-26.
The Otters next game is at home on Friday against Cal Poly Pomona. Tip off at the Otter Sports Center is at 5:30 p.m.
