Biography
2016–17 – Cal State Monterey Bay: Renny Castanon did not compete as a true sophomore in 2016–17.
2015 – Cal State Monterey Bay: Castanon made an immediate impression as CSUMB’s top finisher in the 5K open section (19:41.70) of the UC Riverside Invitational on the UCR Ag Ops course (Sept. 12)…went on to compete in all seven races as a freshman…ran a 6K PR of 22:58.50 at the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park (Oct. 17)…top finish was 14th at the Sonoma State Invitational (Oct. 3).
High School: Castanon served as a team captain for her cross country and track & field teams at Bella Vista High School in suburban Sacramento…qualified for the CIF State Championship Meet in cross country all four years at Bella Vista…was a 4–time All–Capital Valley League pick in cross country…her 5K PR of 18:52.25 at Granite Regional Park (Oct. 10, 2012) would rank No. 9 on the CSUMB all–time list and would be the No. 5 mark all–time for an Otter on that course…helped the Broncos win four consecutive CVL titles…as a track athlete she has an 800 PR of 2:23.46.
Personal: Castanon is majoring in marine science at CSUMB and plans to become a marine biologist…given first name is Lauren… earned All–Academic honors from the CCAA and the D2 Athletic Directors Association as a sophomore…was a scholar–athlete award winner in high school…enjoys downhill skiing in her spare time…mother is Deborah Castanon.
