Vanessa Avila redshirted the 2014 season.

2013 – CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY
Avila started 52 games in her first Otter season and added a dynamic presence at second base…named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year for 2013…hit .295 with a .358 OBP…had eight multi–hit games…had season–best 3–for–3 games in wins over Cal State East Bay (Feb. 22) and Montana State–Billings (Apr. 5)…made just two errors in 265 chances at second (.992)…hit .429 (9–for–21) over a season–best 7–game hitting streak (Apr. 12–20)…successful on 7–of–9 stolen base attempts.

SANTIAGO CANYON CC
Vanessa Avila hopes to provide a spark to the Otter offense after leading Santiago Canyon College by scoring 28 runs as a sophomore in 2012…also hit .287 with eight stolen bases as a sophomore…enjoyed an even stronger freshman campaign, hitting .289 with 33 runs and 22 stolen bases…twice earned SCC Golden Glove honors.

HIGH SCHOOL
Avila prepped at JSerra Catholic where she lettered four times for the Lions…was the JSerra rookie of the year as a freshman before earning All–Trinity League recognition in her final three seasons…hit .279 with a team–high 15 RBIs as a senior in 2010…hit her first career home run as a sophomore against Warren High (Apr. 1, 2008)…played travel ball with several clubs, finishing up with the Batbusters 16s and Firecrackers 18s.

PERSONAL
Avila is majoring in liberal studies with a minor in health and wellness at CSUMB…career goal is to be a teacher…parents are Leticia and Marc Avila.
