Calling him, “a big piece of my coaching staff,” CSUMB Head Coach Rob Cummings named Dave Stockton his top lieutenant this past May of 2014.
Stockton comes to CSUMB after a three–year coaching stint at Missouri State University, where he was involved in all facets of coaching and specialized in the goalkeeper training. With Stockton’s help, Missouri State captured the 2009 Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship and an NCAA tournament bid, marking the first time in 10 years for both achievements.
Stockton mentored MSU goalkeeper Alex Riggs, helping him earn MVC Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and MVC Goalkeeper of the Year recognition in 2010. A two–time NSCAA All–Midwest Region first team selection, Riggs signed with the Columbus Crew of the MLS following his stellar collegiate career.
Stockton also worked with the Bear women's soccer team as its goalkeeper coach, helping the program finish in second place in the MVC in both 2009 and 2010.
Stockton’s introduction to collegiate soccer came at Midwestern State (Texas) University, where he spent seven seasons as a player and coach. He enjoyed a four–year playing career as a goalkeeper at Midwestern, leading the Mustangs to the NCAA Division II national quarterfinals on two occasions on squads that finished a combined 51–17–6 in four seasons. He was the All–Midwest Region first team goalkeeper as a senior and earned the Soccer Alumni Award for Leadership and Integrity in 2004.
Stockton’s collegiate coaching career began in 2005 when led the Mustang goalkeepers to a 13–3–2 record. He served as a graduate assistant with the Mustangs the next two seasons, helping lead Midwestern to a 36–5–4 record, including an NCAA Division II Final Four appearance in 2007. Cummings joined Stockton on that 2007 Mustang staff.
Stockton, who earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Midwestern State in 2006, played professionally in the Pacific Coast Soccer League and Premier Development League, and was an all star in the PCSL in 2004. He spent the 2005 and 2006 season with the DFW Tornados of the PDL.
Stockton earned his United States Soccer Federation "B" Coaching License in January of 2009.
