Artie Cairel

In 2010, Artie Cairel will begin his ninth year as the men's head coach and his second season as the women's head coach.

He guided the 2007 men's team to their first California Collegiate Athletic Association conference tournament appearance, losing in the semi-finals to eventually tourney champs Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The men's squad won the NAIA California Pacific Conference championship in 2002, earning an automatic bid to the NAIA Region II championships. That same year he was named California Pacific Conference Coach of the Year.

Cairel has also produced 14 NAIA Cal Pac All-Conference players, an NAIA All-American, five CCAA All-Conference players and one NCAA DII All-West Region player.

His extensive coaching experience encompasses all levels from youth to professional teams. Prior to joining the CSUMB coaching staff, Cairel served as a National Youth Scout for the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and as Technical Director for the Olympic Development Program of California Youth Soccer (North).

In 1982, Cairel was named director for the Livermore Soccer Club. His coaching resume includes being an assistant coach at University of California, Berkeley; a coaching school instructor for the California Youth Soccer Association; and as head coach at Ohlone College.
Cairel has seen a number of his players go on to compete on the US National team and have professional careers in Major League Soccer organization.

Cairel holds his USSF "A" license and is a recipient of a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Advanced National Diploma. He received his bachelor's degree from California State University, Hayward in political science in 1992 and a master's in physical education in 1994, also from CSU Hayward.
