Biography
2016 – Cal State Monterey Bay: Timothy Cruz finished 65th in the season–opening CCAA Preview meet, navigating the Guasti Regional Park 6K course in 23:01.40…he did not race again as a junior.
2015 – Cal State Monterey Bay: Cruz competed in four meets for the second consecutive season…ran sub–30 8Ks twice, including a season–best 29:41.90 at the Stanford Invitational (Sept. 26)…best finish was 20th at the Sonoma State Invitational (Oct. 3).
2014 – Cal State Monterey Bay: Cruz competed in four meets as a freshman, all at the 8K distance…best time was a 27:07.00 at the Stanford Invitational (Sept. 27)…best finish was 44th at the UCSD Triton Invitational (Oct. 25).
High School: Cruz joined the Otter raft after racing for Yucaipa High School for four seasons…finished in the top nine in all six races as a senior, including a season–best second at the Citrus Belt League Championship…ran a 3–mile PR of 16:06.6 to help Yucaipa win the Citrus Belt Cluster (Sept. 25, 2013)…5K PR of 16:48 came on the Woodward Park course at the Clovis Invitational (Oct. 6, 2012)…earned All–Citrus Belt League honors as a junior in 2012…track & field PRs include a 4:44 1,600 meters and a 9:59 3,200 meters…led Yucaipa to CBL titles in cross country in 2012 and 2013 and to CBL track titles from 2012–14.
Personal: Cruz is majoring in liberal studies with a minor in mathematics at CSUMB…career goal is to teach in the Monterey Bay area…was a 3–year member of the California Scholarship Federation…is a member of the CSUMB Student–Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)…has worked as a public address announcer at Otter sporting events…lists playing Pokemon (not Pokemon Go) amongst his hobbies…parents are Steve and Jeannette Cruz.
