Tyler Brown moves down the Pacific coast to transition from college basketball player at Humboldt State to college basketball coach at CSUMB for the 2014–15 season. Brown has already dipped his toes into the coaching waters, serving as a freshman coach at Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs, Calif. He coached with his older brother, Michael Brown, Jr., who passed away tragically this past July.
As well as coaching at the high school level, Brown has worked in basketball personal development and skills training for the past three years.
Brown was a 3–year member of the Humboldt State basketball team, helping the Lumberjacks win the CCAA title and earn a No. 3 national ranking as a junior in 2011. He also played for two seasons at nearby Monterey Peninsula College.
A native of Sacramento, Brown graduated from HSU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in criminal justice in 2013. In addition to Michael, the basketball connections in his family extend to his other brother, Allan, who played for Montana State Northern and graduated from MSUN with a degree in business administration.
