SEASIDE, Calif. — Five different players found the back of the net as Cal State Monterey Bay erupted for five second-half goals to race past Hawai'i Pacific, 5-1, Sunday at Cardinale Stadium.
After playing to a scoreless draw against Western Washington in Friday's season opener, the Otters (1-0-1) broke through in a big way Sunday, scoring five times over the final 37 minutes to secure their first victory of the season.
Gianna Foss led the offensive outburst with a goal and an assist, while
Juliana Dow assisted on two goals.

Naomi Tobias,
Ella Schug and
Nika Louchard joined Foss in finding the back of the net.
Despite controlling much of the opening half, CSUMB couldn't find a breakthrough. The Otters outshot HPU 5-2 and generated five corner kicks over the opening 45 minutes, but the teams entered halftime locked in a scoreless tie.
Hawai'i Pacific then stunned the Otters shortly after the restart. The lead lasted less than six minutes.
Foss provided the response in the 54th minute, taking a feed from
Chloe Van Winkle and finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season to pull CSUMB even at 1-1. From there, the floodgates opened.
Foss turned provider in the 68th minute, setting up Kodama for the go-ahead goal and her first tally of the season.
The Otters needed less than six more minutes to add another. Dow found Tobias in the 74th minute, with Tobias finishing for her first goal of the campaign and extending the Monterey Bay advantage to 3-1.
Schug joined the scoring parade in the 83rd minute, putting home a goal to make it 4-1.
Louchard capped the afternoon with just over a minute remaining. Dow picked up her second assist of the match as Louchard finished in the 89th minute for the fifth and final CSUMB goal.
The Otters dominated the second half statistically, outshooting Hawai'i Pacific 15-3 after the break. Monterey Bay finished the match with a 20-5 advantage in total shots and an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
CSUMB also earned seven corner kicks compared with two for the Sharks.
The Otters will continue their season-opening homestand Thursday when they welcome Chaminade to Cardinale Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
