RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay's young talent continued to impress Saturday morning as the Otter men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong performances at the 45th annual UC Riverside Invitational at the UCR Ag Ops Course.
 
"I am so impressed with these teams," CSUMB head coach Greg Rhines said. "My mind is blown when thinking of where we are now, compared with where we were a few years ago. I believe these teams are coming up to a new level of competitiveness."
 
On the women's side, freshman Dakota Keyworth once again led the way as Monterey Bay competed in a deep 30-team Women's Invite 6K field.
 
Keyworth finished 51st overall in 21:11.0, besting her previous freshman record. The performance came two weeks after she opened her collegiate career with a fifth-place finish at the Coyote Challenge.
 
Rachel Hoops was the second Otter across the line, finishing in 21:26.5, followed by Samantha Buttitta in 21:37.2. Senior Cozette Wood clocked a 21:45.0, while freshman Sidney Logsdon completed CSUMB's scoring five in 21:46.8.
 
Angeline Gutierrez followed the scoring five in 21:52.9, while Daniela Munguia crossed in 22:04.5. Cassidy Andreadakis (22:06.7) and Deia Kerseg-Foreman (22:12.8) gave CSUMB additional depth in the invitational race.
 
The team's cumulative time is the fastest in school history at 1:47.47.
 
The Otters also had several runners compete in the Women's Open 5K, led by Adriana Lemus in 18:55.8. Mariessa McLaughlin followed in 19:11.6 with Hannah Fish crossing in 19:20.4.
 
CSUMB will have two weeks to prepare for its next competition, traveling to Santa Clarita for the TMU Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Central Park.
