Otters Split Twinbill to Open Stanislaus Series

CSUMB wins 6-3, falls 10-9

TURLOCK, Calif. — After wasting a huge comeback in the opener, Cal State Monterey Bay played a solid second game to earn a split at Stanislaus State Friday evening at Warrior Field. CSUMB rallied from 7–0 down in the opener before falling 10–9. The Otters took the nightcap, 6–3.

After falling behind 7–0 through two innings in Game 1, Andrea DeJesus (West Valley College/Live Oak HS) balsted a grand slam for her third home run of the season to get the Otter offense on track. Triples by Faith Soriano (Los Angeles/Archer School for Girls) and Aniya Lawson (Fairfiled/Vanden HS) helped spark a 4-run sixth the gsve the Otters a 9–8 lead.

But the Warriors rallied for two runs in the home half of the sixth to reclaim the lead. Nat Camarena's 2-out, 2-run single was the big blow.

Stanislaus starter Alexandria Himes then threw her only 1-2-3 inning of the day in the seventh to close the game.

The Otters turned things around under the lights by pounding 11 hits and riding the arm of freshman Jordan Knutson (Medford, Ore./West Medford HS), who earned her 10th victory of the season. She allowed three runs on three hits and a wild pitch in the fourth inning, but posted six innings of 2-hit, shutout ball around that.

The Otter offense scored singles runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings to claim a 4–3 lead. A sac fly by Lawson and an RBI knock from Ellie Escalante (Soquel HS) extended the Otter lead to 6–3 before Knutson put a final lid on the Stanislaus bats.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN… Alexandria Himes pitched a perfect seventh after her offense scored twice in the sixth to come from behind for the win.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN… Jordan Knutson fanned Addie Meddings and Madison Rosebrough, representing the potential tying runs, to end the sixth inning.

WELCOME TO DOUBLE DIGITS: Jordan Knutson became the 18th different Otter to record 10 wins in a season with her victory in Game 2 Friday at Stanislaus.

A SIX PACK FOR DeJESUS: Andrea DeJesus became the eight player in Otter history to drive in six or more runs in a game when she brought home six in Friday's opener at Stanislaus. She is the first player to do it sinx Oli Perez drove in seven in a win at Cal Poly Humboldt in 2023. Only Perez and Samantha Luna (8 vs. Holy Names in 2017) ever drove in more runs as an Otter.

MARTINEZ CRACKS SEASON RBI TOP 25: Nevaeh Martinez moved into the Otter single-season Top 25 for RBI with her 38th RBI Friday at Stanislaus. With two more, she'll become the first Otter since 2017 to drive in 40 or more in a season.

GAME 1 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Ellie Escalante (8)). TRIPLES: Faith Soriano (4), Aniya Lawson (1). HOME RUNS: Andrea DeJesus (3).

GAME 2 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Nevaeh Martinez 2 (8,9). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: None.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters and Warriors will conclude their 4-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at noon. As always, if you can't make it to the games, you can catch all of the action on the FloSports Network (OtterAthletics.com/watch).
