Otters Extend Unbeaten Streak to Five with Road Draw at UC Merced

Louchard scores second-half equalizer as CSUMB earns another CCAA point

MERCED, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay continued its impressive run through CCAA play Friday evening, battling UC Merced on the road to a 1-1 draw at Bobcat Field to extend its unbeaten streak to five consecutive matches.

The Otters improved to 5-2-4 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play, moving to 3-0-2 over their last five contests. CSUMB has now earned 11 of a possible 15 conference points during the stretch.

After trailing at halftime, the Otters responded with a second-half equalizer from Nika Louchard, who found the back of the net in the 55th minute to bring Monterey Bay level.

Louchard's second goal of the season came at the 54:33 mark, finishing a scoring opportunity created by Juliana Dow. The assist added to Dow's impressive offensive production after the Otter forward scored three goals in CSUMB's two victories the previous week.

The goal highlighted an improved second-half attacking effort from the Otters, which generated six of its eight shots after the break. CSUMB also put two shots on frame in the final 45 minutes after being held without a shot on goal in the opening period.

The match also marked the conclusion of a historic defensive stretch for the Otters.

UC Merced's opening goal at 19:13 ended CSUMB's program-record streak of four consecutive shutouts and 379 minutes, 13 seconds without allowing a goal. The streak began with a 2-0 victory at Cal State San Marcos on Sept. 25 and continued through shutouts against Cal Poly Pomona, San Francisco State and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Despite conceding for the first time in five matches, goalkeeper Willow Baltazar continued her strong play, recording five saves in 90 minutes. Baltazar made four stops in the opening half and another after intermission to help preserve the draw.

Gianna Foss led the Otters with two shots, including one on goal, while Kamryn Bubak also put an attempt on frame. Louchard scored on her lone shot of the contest.

Defensively, Chloe Van Winkle, Jordan Sawyer and Bailey Rozier each played all 90 minutes as the Otters limited UC Merced to just three second-half shots.

CSUMB finished with eight shots, including six in the second half, while UC Merced recorded 11 attempts. The Bobcats held a narrow 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The draw extended Monterey Bay's unbeaten streak to five matches, with the Otters having outscored their opponents 8-1 during that stretch. CSUMB has now earned points in five consecutive conference contests as it continues its push through the CCAA schedule.

The Otters return home to host Chico State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
