Offensive Explosion Leads To Split at Humboldt.

Otters score 13 times in Game 2 run-rule win

ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal State Monterey Bay exploded for 13 runs in the nightcap to earn a series-opening split against Cal Poly Humboldt Saturday afternoon at Lumberjack Field.

The explosion included a pair of 5-run innings in a 13-1, 5-inning victory. The win avenged Humboldt's come-from-behind effort in Game 1 when the Lumberjacks scored twice in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 win.

Ally Alcayaga's (Sonoma Valley HS) grand slam in the third inning gave the Otters an insurmountable 9-0 lead in Game 2. Nani Areola (Fillmore/Oaks Christian HS) also homered as part of the 10-hit Otter attack.

Senior Savannah Madrigal (Simi Valley/Chaminade Prep) was the benfeficiary of the prodigious offensive effort. She improved to 7-1 while scattering seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Freshman Mikaya Griego (Diamond Bar HS) cleaned up with 1 2/3 innings of no-hit, shutout relief.

Abreanna Alba (Watsonville HS/Cabrillo College) staked CSUMB to a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the opener with a single plating Anastacia Alba (Watsonville HS) and Jaedyn White (Fairfiled/Rodriguez HS).

Freshman Kadence Nulick (Madera/Buchanan HS) took the Otters into the sixth inning with the lead, allowing just one run over 5 2/3 innings while fanning five.

But the Lumberjacks tied the game when Shelby Shanks led off the seventh with a homer against freshman reliever Kaitlyn Le (San Ramon/California HS). They followed by loading the bases with one out, when Alyssa Ramirez singled up the middle to drive home the game-winning run.

Anastacia Alba led the Otters in the opener with her fifth double of the season. Arreloa finished with three hit her third double of the season while matching her career high with three hits. Nevaeh Martinez (Soquel HS) and Sofia Cervantes (Chino/St. Lucy's Priory) also doubled in the nightcap.

The Otters and Lumberjacks will conclude their 4-game series with a doubleheader Sunday in Arcata. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m
