Otters Get Another Run-Rule Win In Senior Day Split

Willis wins 15th game, Alcayaga finishes over .400

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay got its second run-rule victory in as many days to earn another split with Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex. CSUMB took the opener, 10–1 in five innings, before Dominguez Hills rallied to win the nightcap, 7–0.

Freshman Mackenzie Willis (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas HS) earned her 15th victory of the season in the opener, allowing just five hits while striking out four. Oli Perez (Ceres HS) led the 11-hit attack with a 3-run homer in the first inning to get the offense rolling.

Kieley Ganaden (North Salinas HS) and Anastacia Alba (Watsonville HS) added two hits apiece. Ally Alcayaga (Sonoma Valley HS) chipped in her ninth double of the season.

The Otters broke the game open with a 5-run second inning. Jackie Perales (Anaheim/Sunny Hills HS), Ganaden and Alba hit consecutive RBI singles before Alcayaga capped the outburst with a 2-run double. Perez and Haylee Clay added run-scoring singles in the fourth to increase the lead to 10–0.

Cal State Dominguez Hills senior pitcher Ashley Wies came on the Game 2 to quiet the Otter bats for the second consecutive day. After scattering five hits in a win Friday, she tossed a 2-hit shutout Saturday. Singles by Clay in the fifth and Ashley Honorio (Stockton/.Bear Creak HS) in the sixth spoiled her no-hit bid.
 

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN… Ally Alcayaga's 2-run double put the cap on a 5-run Otter second, giving CSUMB an 8–0 lead.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN… Mariah Ramirez hit a 2-run homer in the first inning. CSUMB never threatened to score and never got the tying run past the on deck circle for the balance of the game.

ALCAYAGA JOINS .400 CLUB… Ally Alcayaga became just the ninth different Otter to hit .400 for a season when she went 1-for-5 Saturday to finish the season at .402 She is the first new member of the club the first since Julia Garcia hit .451 while winning the CCAA triple crown in 2017.

WILLIS JUST MISSED 200 K… Mackenzie Willis fanned four Toros Saturday, bringing her season total to 195. That's the CSUMB single-season record and already ranks No. 7 on the CSUMB career list. She'll begin 2025 needing 14 strikeouts to pass Diane Ortiz for No. 6. Jessica Boyle set the Otter record with 466 Ks from 2006–09.

DOUBLE (DIGIT) THE FUN… It took until the final game of the season, but the Otters scored double-digit runs for the first time in 2024 with Saturday's 10–1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

HAVE MERCY… The Otters earned their first two 8-run "mercy" rule wins of the season this weekend versus Cal State Dominguez Hills, winning 8–0 on Friday and 10–1 on Saturday.
