TURLOCK, Calif. — Another big game from sophomnore
Jaden Tengan (Sacramento/Santa Clarita Christian) wasn't enough to stop Stanislaus State from taking a CCAA-opening 90–79 victory Saturday afternoon in Fitzpatrick Arena.
Tengan went for 21 points and five assists, but Stanislaus guard Jason Cibull went 4-for-4 from long range as part of his 15-point second half to help the Warriors turn a 5-point Otter lead into the 11-point final.
Stanislaus used an early 12-–2 run to take the biggest lead of the day for either team at 21–11. But CSUMB righted the ship and led for the final five minutes of the first half, including a 39–38 edge at halftime.
The Otters led a nip-and-tuck second half until Jason Zimmer knocked down a three to break a 62–62 tie with eight minutes remaining. A pair of late Cibull threes and six free throws allowed Stanislaus to pull away in the closing minutes.
In addition to Tengan,
Michael Mora (Palo Alto/Vermont) scored 13 points and
Javon Johnson (Antioch/De La Salle HS) had 11.
Blake Jones (Canberra, Aust.) pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds
