ARCATA – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team saw their historic run come to an end after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Cal State East Bay in the CCAA Tournament semifinal round held at College Creek Field on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt.
Morgan Pearson scored in the 35
th minute to lift the Pioneers to the championship match. The Otters had their chances though, rattling the woodwork twice, including the far post in the final minute of play.
The Pioneers outshot the Otters 9-7 as
Jaedyn Sanders posted a game-high three shots.
Nylah Mirshafiei was credited with four saves.
The Otters recorded their 17
th match of allowing one goal or less. Mirshafiei caps off her sophomore season with a 0.73 goals against average, which ranks second all-time in the single season annals.
CSUMB finished the season 7-4-8 overall, their fifth time with a .500-or-better record in the last six seasons. The CCAA Tournament appearance was the first in program history.
