Frankland’s Big Night Leads Otters To Big Win Over Chico

Levi Frankland’s 29 points leads CSUMB to 85-66 victory

SEASIDE, Calif. — The second biggest scoring night of Levi Frankland's career led Cal State Monterey bay to its biggest win ever over Chico State as the Otters handed the Wildcats an 85–66 defeat Thursday night in The Kelp Bed.

Frankland went for a game–high 29 points — two off his career high — as CSUMB opened a 13–point lead at halftime before pouring it on in the second half. The Otters led by as many as 31 points before settling on the 19–point final margin.

Led by a 10-for-15 night from Frankland, the Otters shot a season–best 49.2 percent from the floor. They were even better from long range, with Frankland's 4-for-4 night from beyond the arc helping them shoot 52.2 percent from distance.

In addition to Frankland, Joe Wall (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) scored 15 points while freshman Ameere Britton (Elk Grove HS) added 13. J.R. Schilling (Lake Oswego [Ore.] HS) just missed his first collegiate double–double, finishing with nine points and a game–high 10 rebounds.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… a Joe Wall 3–pointer gave the Otters a 76–49 lead with 8:18 remaining.

LARGE MARGINS, PART I… CSUMB's 85–66 win over Chico State was its biggest ever against the Wildcats. Its previous best was an 80–66 win on Feb. 4, 2006.

LARGE MARGINS, PART II… CSUMB's 31–point (83–52) lead during Thursday's win over Chico State was it's largest lead at any point in a game since holding an 85–42 (43 points) lead over Notre Dame de Namur on Dec. 1, 2015.

HOW HIGH CAN YOU COUNT? The 29 points scored by Levi Frankland were the most scored by an Otter since Frankland went for a career–high 31 in a win over Cal State L.A. on Dec. 11, 2021.

WE LOVE THE 80s: With Thursday's 85–66 win over Chico State, the 80s once again proved to be incredibly friendly territory for the Otters. With last CSUMB now owns a 55–10 (.846) mark in its last 65 games when scoring at least 80 in regulation games dating to the 2007–08 season. Under Isaac Williams, the Otters are 17–6 in such contests.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Levi Frankland 29; REBOUNDS: J.R. Schilling 10; ASSISTS: Ameere Britton 4; BLOCKS: Jared Williams 2; STEALS: Ameere Britton/J.R. Schilling/Jared Williams 1.

THE LAST WORD… "This was one the most complete games any of our teams have played since I got to Monterey.  The defense, offense, rebounding effort, and most importantly the energy was incredible. All that said, my favorite part was seeing the smiles on the faces of our guys throughout the night. It's a special group of people and it sort of feels like they are figuring out how hard you have to compete to win in this league."." – CSUMB Head Coach Isaac Williams

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their 2–game homestand by hosting Stanislaus State as part of a CCAA doubleheader. The women will tip-off at 1 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 3 p.m.
