SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team posted its third clean sheet in four outings this season with a 4–0 shutout of Academy of Art Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

Senior midfielder Jasmine Safarians (Pleasant Hill/College Park HS) recorded her first collegiate brace, including what proved to be the match–winner just eight minutes after kickoff. She completed her double 21 minutes later before freshman Jazmine Casteneda (Aptos HS) put the match away with her first collegiate strike in the 33rd minute. Freshman Andria Hernandez (Fresno/Central HS) finished a Safarians feed just past the hour to close the Otter scoreline.

The offensive outburst gave plenty of support to senior goalkeeper Maleni Morales (Mission San Jose HS), who went untested in the second half while recording her third shutout of 2022.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Jazmine Casteneda scored in the 33rd minute to give the Otters a 3–0 lead. Academy of Art managed just two shots in the match, making that lead completely safe.

HOME COOKING… The Otters have enjoyed home cooking under sixth–year Head Coach Laura VanWart CSUMB is now 10–3–2 in its last 15 home contests. CSUMB has never had a losing home record under VanWart, posting an home mark of 21–10–9 during her tenure.

KEEP IT CLEAN… With Saturday's shutout of Academy of Art, Maleni Morales and the Otter defense have played 236:48 consecutive minutes of shutout soccer. It's CSUMB's longest such streak since opening the 2021 season with 322:07 of clean soccer from Sept. 4–12.

BRACE YOURSELF… The brace by Jasmine Safarians in Saturday's win over Academy of Art not only was her first, it was the first by an Otter since Amelia McManus recorded a hat trick in a win over Holy Names on Sept. 16, 2021.

SENIOR DAY IN SEPTEMBER? Yup. The Otters took advantage of perfect weather and a Labor Day weekend that allowed more family members to attend to honor their Class of 2022. Those honored this afternoon were: Kate Farley, Elizabeth Kobrine, Maleni Morales, Christina Palacios, Maya Richardson, Jasmine Safarians, Nayeli Sandoval Gallo and Catalina Villegas.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters fly to the Pacific Northwest for a pair of games next weekend, beginning with a match at Great Northwest Conference opponent Saint Martin's University Friday (Sept. 9) in Lacey, Wash. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
