SEASIDE, Calif. — Three goals in the final half hour proved more than enough to propel host Cal State Monterey Bay to a 3–1 win over San Francisco State Thursday evening at Cardinale Stadium.

CSUMB improved to 5–4–3 overall and 2–2-1 in the CCAA with the win. SFSU dipped to 3–7–2 and 1–3–1.

Sophomore Amelia McManus (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran HS) scored yet another brace and Tiger Rendon (Fresno/Central HS) added the final blow, over a 26–minute span in the second half. SFSU's Julia Hagedon pulled one back by finishing a Carly Ortega corner kick as the final horn sounded.

For its part, San Francisco State carried the play for much of the first half, out–shooting CSUMB 5–1 in the period. As it neared the hour mark, however, McManus turned the match on its ear when she out–muscled a Gator defender for a Nayeli Sandoval Gallo (San Bernardino Valley College) pass and roofed one over Gator keeper Marcella Salyer, who had charged out of her 6–yard box in a vain attempt to cut the angle.

She completed her double 23 minutes later when Jasmine Safarians (Pleasant Hill/College Park HS) found her on the doorstep and she poked home her sixth of the season. Rendon closed the Otter ledger with a nifty individual move in the box to create space for a shot that Salyer deflected but couldn't stop.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Amelia McManus scored her second of the match in the 81st minute.

BRACE YOURSELVES… Not only was the brace by Amelia McManus her second in six days and her third of the season, it was the fourth of her career (including a hat trick last season against Holy Names). McManus now has scored in five of her 29 collegiate appearances and in four of those games she has recorded multiple goals.

SIX SHOOTER… Amelia McManus now has six goals through 12 matches in 2022. That already ranks No. 8 on the Otter single–season list. They're the most since Kristen Womack set CSUMB's NCAA Division II era record with nine goals in 2015.

SHE'S A WINNER… Amelia McManus's first goal versus San Francisco State Thursday night was her third match–winner of the season. That is tied with Ashlee Cortez (2016) and Kristen Womack (2013, '15) for No. 2 on the Otter single–season list for match–winning goals. Andrea Davis set the Otter record with four match–winners in 2012.
