Otters To Face Chico In Opening Round Of CCAA Championship

Otters fall to No. 3 Dominguez Hills 3–0 in regular season finale

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team concluded its regular season with a 3–0 loss to No. 3 ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday afternoon at Cardinale Stadium. The loss had no impact on the Otters' postseason plans, however, as the real drama took place around the CCAA.

CSUMB finished the regular season 8–7–2 overall and 6–5–0 in the CCAA. Before play began on Thursday, they were locked into the No. 4 seed in the CCAA Championship Tournament.

What wasn't determined was CSUMB's opponent. Just for a moment, it looked like it would be Cal State San Marcos, which defeated Cal State San Bernardino 2–0 to move to 14 points and the No. 5 seed. With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, Chico State pulled its match out of the fire with a late goal to draw at Cal Poly Humboldt and to move to 15 points and squeeze out the Cougars.

As for Thursday's contest between the Otters and the Toros, Dominguez Hills scored  a pair of quality goals midway through the first half to go up 2–0. CSUMB carried play for much of the second half, but couldn't unlock the Toro defense before Sulaiman Bah scored his second of the match in the 85th minute to put the game on ice.

Saturday also marked the final regular season home games for Otter seniors George Aquino, Colin O'Mahony and Jordan Sime. Not to worry though as all three will return to action Sunday when the Otters host Chico State at Cardinale Stadium in the opening round of the CCAA Championship Tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The winner of that match advances to the CCAA Final Four beginning Nov. 4 in San Bernardino.
