Johnson Sets Record In Otter Home Finale Against UCSD

Jahvon Johnson makes 99th career start to break Brandon Ward’s record

SEASIDE, Calif. — Playing in his final home collegiate game, senior Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) made his school–record 99th career start in an 84–64 loss to No. 3 UC San Diego Saturday afternoon in The Kelp Bed.

Johnson broke the record of 98 starts first set by Brandon Ward (2010–13). He also moved to within 16 points of Ward on the Otter career scoring list (1,231 to 1,216) with two games remaining in the regular season.

In addition to Johnson, the Otters got solid games from their other two seniors. Joseph Bosetti (Red Bluff HS) led the Otters with 16 points and seven rebounds. Charlie Tooley (Granite Bay HS) added 12 points.

As to the game itself, UCSD took early control by opening with an 18–4 run. CSUMB chipped away and was within seven points into the second half before the Tritons eased away.

Despite the loss, the Otters remain in the hunt for a CCAA Tournament berth. They will enter the final weekend of the regular season one game out of seventh place and one–half game out of eighth in the CCAA race. The top eight teams in the conference standings after next weekend's action will earn bids to the CCAA Championship Tournament, beginning Mar. 3.

CSUMB hits the road for its final two games with dates at Cal State San Bernardino (Feb. 27) and Cal Poly Pomona (Feb. 29). The Otters will have to win at least one of those games to have a chance at postseason play.
