Otters Advance To, Fall In CCAA Championship Semis

CSUMB downs San Francisco State 7–3 then bows from tournament against San Bernardino

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay knocked off San Francisco State 7–3 Saturday afternoon to advance to the CCAA Softball Championship semifinals. But the Otter season came to an end Saturday night when Cal State San Bernardino took an 11–0 decision at the Otter Sports Complex.

Junior Hayley Fein (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) tossed a 2–hitter in the opener to knock out SFSU in an elimination game. Fein took a no–hitter into the fifth before the Gators scored three runs on a single hit in the sixth to make the final cosmetically closer.

Sophomore Alyssa Burt (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS) went–4–for–4 with her team–leading 15th double of the season to lead the Otter offense versus the Gators. Gabrielle Forbes (San Jose/Presentation HS) added two hits and a double.

The late game against San Bernardino went sideways early when the Coyotes parlayed five walks in the first three innings into a 6–0 lead. Fein came on in relief to put out the fire, but a pair of errors on routine grounders opened the door on a 5–run San Bernardino fifth inning that iced the game.

Freshman Jessilyn Barrow (Folsom HS) cracked a pair of doubles off the wall in right center to claim to of CSUMB's four hits.
