SEASIDE, Calif. — Senior Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) scored a career high 26 points to lead Cal State Monterey Bay to a convincing 96–67 win over the University of Alaska Friday afternoon in Game 2 of the Otter Classic at The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB (2–1 overall) conceded baskets on the first two Alaska possessions, but it was all Otters from that point. They steadily grew their lead over the final 30 minutes, bolting ahead by as many as 30 before settling on the 29–point final margin.

The victory proved to be a total team effort with 11 different Otters scoring and 12 different Otters pulling down a rebound. CSUMB shot 54 percent from the floor, made 13 3–pointers and out–rebounded the Nanooks 43–33.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Joseph Bosetti made a layup in traffic to give the Otters an 83–57 lead with 6:39 remaining.

LARGE MARGINS… The 29–point final margin in Friday's 96–67 win over Alaska is CSUMB's fourth largest against an NCAA opponent. It's the largest Otter win over an NCAA foe since an 86–56 (30 points) win over Stanislaus State on Dec. 11, 2015.

LIVING IN THE 90s… CSUMB has score 90+ points in its last two games (including a 97–92 win over Concordia–Portland on Nov. 9). It's the first time the Otters have score more than 90 points in consecutive games since defeating Cal State East Bay 93–81 (Dec. 20, 2014) and Sonoma State 91–82 (Jan. 2, 2015).

CAREER DAY FOR JOHNSON… Jahvon Johnson's 26–point explosion (in just 22 minutes) surpassed his previous career high of 23 points in a 2018 win at UC San Diego. They bounced him past Evan Zeller (2014–17) into the No. 9 spot on the Otter career scoring list with 931 points.

THE 300 CLUB… Jahvon Johnson went a perfect 6–for–6 from the line Friday afternoon to give him exactly 300 career free throws made. He needs five more to pass Brandon Ward (2010–13) for No. 2 on the Otter career list. Davion Berry (2010–11) owns the CSUMB record with 341 free throws

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Jahvon Johnson 26; REBOUNDS: Joseph Bosetti 9; ASSISTS: Dwight Murray 4; BLOCKS: Jared Williams 2; STEALS: Seven Otters 1.

THE LAST WORD… "The guys played with incredible energy today. They played hard defensively and unselfishly on the offensive end. Obviously it's early in the season, but I'm excited to see where this group can go." – CSUMB Head Coach Isaac Williams

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude play at the 2019 Otter Classic by taking on Academy of Art Saturday at 3 p.m.
