SEASIDE, Calif.— The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team scored four unanswered runs to rally for a 9–7 win over San Francisco State in Game 1 before darkness descended to halt the nightcap tied at 6–6 headed to the bottom of the seventh inning.
SFSU put up three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to erase a 4–1 Otter lead and take a 7–5 lead into the bottom of the fifth. But
Jayme Stark (La Quinta HS) delivered a 2–out, 2–run single in the bottom of the fifth to tied the game at 7–7 before a
Hayley Fein (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) delivered an RBI single and
Vanessa Garcia lined a sacrifice fly to deep left field to break the tie an inning later.
Julia Garcia (Oxnard HS/Ventura College) hit a 3–run homer and a run–scoring double to lead the Otter offense. Stark added three hits, two runs and two RBI.
Note that Game 2 stats will not become official until the game is either completed or declared complete. The teams are working on a date to complete the game which will start with the Otters coming to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning.
