TURLOCK, Calif. — Big games from senior
Jonquis Bouyea (Seaside, HS) and sophomore
Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) weren't enough to carry visiting Cal State Monterey Bay as the Otters fell to Stanislaus State 92–69 Saturday night in Fitzpatrick Arena.
Bouyea capped his collegiate career in style with a career–high 26 points that included a personal best seven 3–pointers. Johnson added 19 points, three assists and three steals.
The problem for CSUMB on this night was that the other seven Otters who saw action scored just 24 points while combining to shoot 33 percent (10-for-30) from the floor.
???????Bouyea's seven treys alone were enough to get CSUMB to a significant milestone Saturday. The Otters need four 3–point field goals to break the school mark for 3–pointers made in one season. Led by Bouyea's 7-for-11 effort from long range, the Otters netted 12 at Stanislaus, giving them 254 for the season to shatter the previous record of 245 set back in 1999.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… A Kaelen Mitchell jumper gave Stanislaus a 78–52 lead with 7:30 remaining.
BOMBS AWAY ONE EFFICIENTLY… Not only did the Otters smash the school record for 3–pointers made in a season with 254, they did it in five fewer games than the 1998–99 squad, which need 31 games to set the previous mark of 254.
KNOCK THE BLOCK… Gregg Polosky blocked three shots Saturday to give him 30 for the season, good for No. 5 on the Otter single season list. Polosky, who blocked 38 shots as a freshman in 2015–16, is the only player in CSUMB history to block 30 shots in a season twice.
LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS:
Jonquis Bouyea 26; REBOUNDS:
Jonquis Bouyea 8; ASSISTS:
Koen Sapwell 5; BLOCKS:
Gregg Polosky 3; STEALS:
Jahvon Johnson 3.
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… Saturday's game concludes the 2017–18 Otter men's basketball season.
GO OTTERS!
