Otters Can’t Get Over The Hump In 79–71 Loss To Dominguez Hills

Josh Kollman knocks down six 3–pointers, Mateo Jones grabs 10 rebounds

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team dug itself an early hole it never could climb out of completely in a 79–71 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night in The Kelp Bed.

After trailing by 11 points early, the Otters would get no closer than a single point the rest of the way. They had several chances to tie the game in the second half before a 14–3 run midway through the period gave the Toros their biggest lead at 69–53. CSUMB never got within three possessions of the lead for the balance of the night.

Josh Kollman (Bothell [Wash.] HS) continued his 3–point barrage by going 6-of-12 from distance to account for his team–leading 18 points. Gregg Polosky (San Ramon Valley HS) just missed his fourth double–double of the season with 12 points and nine rebounds.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Deondre Otis grabbed the rebound of a missed Jonquis Bouyea jumper with 42 seconds remaining and the Toros leading 79–69.

IT TAKES A THIEF AT LEAST ONE MORE NIGHT… Mateo Jones collected one steal Friday night, the 107th of his career. He needs one more to tie and two to break the CSUMB career record of 108 steals set by Alex Fertig (2013–16).

THE NOT SO STEALTH BOMBERS…  CSUMB continued its aerial assault on the record book by draining seven more 3–pointers Friday night. That give the Otters 227 for the season to pass the 2007–08 team (224) for No. 2 on the all–time list. They have three games remaining to break to Otter record of 245 set by the 1998–99 squad.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Josh Kollman 18; REBOUNDS: Mateo Jones 10; ASSISTS: Jahvon Johnson/Mateo Jones 2; BLOCKS: Jahvon Johnson/Gregg Polosky 1; STEALS: Joe Covarrubias 3.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will play their final home game of the season Saturday night against Cal State L.A. as part of a CCAA doubleheader. The women will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
