BILLINGS, Mont. — Freshman Brooke Roy (Camus [Wash.] HS) finished her freshman season in style by breaking into the Cal State Monterey Bay all–time Top 25 for the second time this season to highlight the Otters' day at the NCAA West Regional Championship on the Amend Park course.

"I'm pleased with today's performances. Both teams ran their absolute best on very cold day," said CSUMB Head Coach Greg Rhines. "The wind was cooperative too, blowing about 10 mph instead of the 30_plus mph we've exprienced here in the past."

Roy's time of 22:22.90 was the second fastest 6K of her career and the 23rd fastest in CSUMB history. Only Hannah Bell, Jessy McIntyre. Hadley Clark and Jordan Allen have ever run faster in an Otter uniform.

Roy finished 49th overall as the fastest of CSUMB's three competitors Saturday morning. Senior Hadley Clark (Tamalpias HS) just missed a spot in the top half of the 180–runner field by placing 94th in 23:07.10. Junior Alex Baron (San Jose/Prospect HS) placed 122nd in 23:40.22.

In the men's race, freshman Nathan Garcia (El Centro/Southwest HS) PRed in his first collegiate 10K, placing 111th overall in 33:46.16. Senior Morris (Casa Roble HS/American River College) finished just behind in 120th place with a time of 34:00.59.

Freshman Joel Swiatkowski (Long Beach/Milikan HS) completed his first collegiate 10K in 34:25.11 to place 133rd while senior Zak Strader (Valencia HS/College of the Canyons) capped his collegiate career with a 34:40.08 to finish 135th.

"Matt led the men with a solid performance, leading three others in their first 10K ever" said Rhines. "Brooke ran a remarkable first NCAA Regional race. She was five seconds faster than our record on the course. Clark and Baron stepped up and delivered as well."
