POMONA, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team tried to shake off Friday's shutout against Cal Poly Pomona at Kellogg Field. The Otters held the Broncos off the board for 72 minutes, but surrendered the lone goal of the game at the 72:13 mark in the 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.
The Broncos' Kalin Tomlinson found the back of the net off a pass from Tasha Inong freed her up to go on-on-one with CSUMB goalkeeper
Alyssa Noh. After drawing out Noh, Tomlinson was able to slot the ball passed Noh into the middle of the net.
The Otters offense was able to get shots off throughout the game, out-shooting Pomona 12-7, including five from
Madison Aguirre.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... The match was not over until the horn sounded at the end of the game as
Miranda Rudolph's last-second shot hit the crossbar as time expired.
GET YOUR SHOTS: Aguirre's five shots on the afternoon are a season-high for the forward. It was the third time in 2017 that she recorded two shots on goal.
STAT PACK... SHOTS: Aguirre -- 5;
SHOTS ON GOAL: Aguirre,
Norma Verduzco (Gonzales HS) -- 2;
SAVES: Noh -- 1
THE FINAL WORD... "The energy the team brought to the match today was a great response to their performance on Friday. We were gritty and hard working but lacked quality in phases three and four. While we out-shot Pomona in the end we just couldn't break through. We will clean things up a bit for our game this Wednesday."
Head Coach Laura VanWart.
THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will stay on the road but stay in Northern California as they battle Cal State East Bay on Wednesday, September 27. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
GO OTTERS!
