TURLOCK, Calif. -- The No. 15 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay softball team rolled a pair of sevens Friday to open play at the Tournament of Champions with two victories. CSUMB defeated Chaminade University 7-2 in its afternoon opener before shutting out Hawaii-Hilo 7-0 Friday night.
Freshman hurler
Hayley Fein (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) stole the show, tossing 12 innings of 6-hit, shutout ball to earn both victories and improve to 15-3 on the season. She allowed just one hit in five innings of work against Chaminade before tossing a 5-hit shutout against Hilo.
The Otter bats were active as well, producing five extra base as part of a 26-hit effort Friday.
Madison Casto (Sunnyvale/Homestead HS),
Julia Garcia (Ventura College),
Courtney Hennings (Amador Valley HS) and
Lusi Stanley (San Jose/Howard College) led the way with four hits apiece.
CSUMB improved to 25-4 with Friday wins. It's CSUMB's best record ever this late into the season. The 2014 Otters began 24-5 and 2015 Otters started 23-6.

THE CHAMINADE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Madison Casto followed
Julia Garcia's leadoff triple leading off the sixth with an RBI single, giving the Otters a 6-2 lead. Chaminade had broken through with two in the top of the sixth to make it interesting.
THE HAWAII-HILO GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Sam Luna's (Salinas HS/MPC) 2-run triple made it 3-0 Otters in the second. Hilo didn't get its first hit until the fourth inning and didn't get a runner past second until the Otter lead had already reached 7-0 in the sixth.
LEADING OFF… Friday's wins pushed CSUMB's winning streak to 14 games, the second longest in school history. The Otter record for most consecutive wins (any sport) is 19 straight by the 2015 Otter softball team.
ON DECK… Hayley Fein ran her scoreless innings streak to 40 1/3 innings with 12 innings of shutout ball Friday. For good measure, she fanned 14 total batters, including a season-high nine in the win over Hawaii-Hilo.
IN THE HOLE… Anneliese Lopez (Ventura/Buena HS) tied Jamie Moon's CSUMB career record for doubles with her 58th double in Friday's opener versus Chaminade. She leads the CCAA with 11 doubles on the season.
LEADERS OF THE RAFT… Madison Casto (4x8, 3 RBI);
Julia Garcia (4x7, 3B, R, RBI);
Courtney Hennings (4x6, 2B, 2 R);
Lusi Stanley (4x7, 2B, R, 3 RBI); Hayley (2-0, 12.0 IP, 0 R, 6 H, 14 K).
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will jump right back into action Saturday with games against Saint Martin's University (2 p.m.) and Notre dame de Namur (7:00 p.m.).
