LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team added an impressive pair of wins to its early–season resume by defeating No. 14 Central Washington 4–3 and No. 27 Azusa Pacific 6–3 to wrap up Day 2 of the Desert Stinger Classic Saturday evening at Majestic Park.
The tag–team pitching tandem of
Hayley Fein (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) and
Alyssa D'Agostino (Chino Hills/Ayala HS) scattered five hits and allowed no earned runs in the win over Central. Sophomore
Rosalia Keirns (Fontana/Claremont HS) pitched two innings in relief of D'Agostino to earn her first collegiate victory in the win over Azusa.
Courtney Hennings (Amador Valley HS) scored on a throwing error to break a 3–3 tie in the eighth inning versus Central Washington. Keirns came on to pitch out of a two–on, no–out jam with the Otters trailing Azusa 2–1 in the sixth.
Julia Garcia's (Oxnard HS/Ventura College) 2–run single in the bottom of the sixth highlighted a 5–run Otter rally that sealed the win.
THE CENTRAL WASHINGTON GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Alyssa D'Agostino coaxed Savannah Egbert to fly out to left for the final out with the tying run on third in the bottom of the eighth inning.
THE AZUSA PACIFIC GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Rosalia Keirns got potential tying run Kayla Jimenez to ground softly to second to end game.
