SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball fans waited a long time for their 2016 home opener. The Otters made sure the wait was worth it. They posted their most dominating win in five seasons by dispatching San Francisco State 25–17, 25–13, 25–15 Friday night in The Kelp Bed.
CSUMB (6–4, 1–2 CCAA) never trailed until SFSU won the first point of the third set. Otherwise, it was all Otters as they hit a season–high .322 and made a season–low 11 errors in the sweep.
Maddy Underwood (Spokane/Grand Canyon Univ.) led all attackers with 14 kills.
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) chipped in 12 kills.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Anela Visesio's kill broke a 7–7 tie early in the second set. It began a 7–0 Otter surge that gave them control of the set and, ultimately, the match.
DEFINING DOMINANCE… How dominating was CSUMB's sweep of the Gators? The Otters allowed the fewest points in a match (45) since they held Dominican (N.Y.) University to 41 points on Aug. 31, 2012. That's a span of 121 matches for those of you keeping score at home.

NET EFFECT… The Otters continued their season–long dominance at the net by out–blocking San Francisco State 8–3 Friday night. They've now out–blocked their opponents in 13 of 14 matches dating back to last season.
FOR (HOME) OPENERS… The Otters bucked a trend with Friday night's win, improving to 5–8 in home openers since moving to the NCAA Division II level in 2004. It's the first time they won their CCAA home opener since defeating Humboldt State in four sets on Sept. 28, 2012.
