SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team hit the road for the first time this season to battle a familiar foe in Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday night in Gleason Gym.
The Otters got off to a slow start as NDNU got out to an 11-6 lead at the first media time out. However, CSUMB quickly responded and tied things up at 11 after a
Logan Louks (San Ramon Valley HS) three-pointer. That sparked an Otter run that gave the visitors a seven point lead. Alas, CSUMB allowed NDNU to get back into the game and keep things close heading into intermission with a 33-30 Otter lead.
The Offense was strong in the second half as CSUMB never trailed in the second half and led by as many as 19 points after a
Jonquis Bouyea (Seaside HS) three-pointer at the 7:08 mark. CSUMB fought off an NDNU charge late, holding on to a 77-69 win.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Notre Dame de Namur made an attempt on a comeback late, getting within 10 with 53 seconds remaining, but a turnover by Stephen Baity nine seconds later sealed the deal for the Otters in the 77-69 win.
NEWCOMERS WELCOME… The Otters put three scorers in double figures in tonight's win in
Shawn Smith (Faith Baptist HS), Stephen Matthews (Sacramento HS), and
Kevin Warren (St. Mary's HS). All three players were not part of the 2015-16 squad. They ended with 20, 15 and 11 points, respectively.
LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS:

Shawn Smith -- 4; BLOCKS:
Gregg Polosky (San Ramon Valley HS), Kevin Warren,

THE LAST WORD… "It was a nice win tonight and it started on the defensive end. ND (Notre Dame) is never an easy place to play so I was really proud of my young team. Any road win is a good one. We are continuing to improve and at this point that is all I can ask for." –
CSUMB Head Coach Rob Bishop
