CHICO, Calif. — The Otter bats came alive—for one inning at least—to help the No. 3 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay softball team earn a doubleheader split to conclude its 4-game set at Chico State Saturday afternoon.
CSUMB (23-6, 14-6 CCAA) fell behind early in both games but came back to win the opener with five unanswered runs.
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) drover in a run in the fourth with an RBI ground out and the game winner in a 4-run sixth with a double.
That provided her with all the offensive support she would need as she scattered three Chico hits to improve to 14-1 in the circle.
A 2-out RBI double by Emily McEnaney in the first inning of the nightcap proved too much for the Otters to overcome as Haley Gilham shut them out for the second consecutive day. It's the first time CSUMB has been shutout on consecutive days since the 2012 season.
In addition to the Game 1 win, the other bright spot for Otter fans was Reinhardt hitting safely in both games to run her hitting streak to 16 games. It is her personal best, the fourth longest streak in school history and the longest by an Otter since Jackie Serna and Nina Villanueva each posted 19 game streaks in 2012.
Alissa Greenhaw (Galt/Cosumnes River College) also hit safely in both games Saturday, finishing the doubleheader 3-for-6.
The Otters will take a break from CCAA action next week, beginning when they host a nonconference doubleheader with Central Washington Wednesday afternoon. They'll head to the Tournament of Champions in Turlock Friday–Sunday, Mar. 27–29.
GO OTTERS!
