SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team went to play its final game of he 2015 season on the road at Chico State under the lights on Thursday night. After their playoff hopes were squandered earlier in the day due to Sonoma State's win over Cal State San Bernardino, the Otters looked to play spoiler and keep the Wildcats out as well.
Early in the first half, the Wildcats jumped out on top to a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by Omar Nuno in the 28th minute. From then on the Otters would get off eight shots, but could not find pay dirt as CSUMB falls 1-0.
"I am proud of the boys tonight. We started this season as a family and ended it tonight still unified," says head coach
Rob Cummings. "Earlier today we found out that we had been knocked out of the conference tournament. With a heavy heart the boys played as we started the season, with fight and passion. So proud of this group. They were a privilage to coach."
Roque Magana (Santa Paula HS) and
Chris Koski (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista HS) led the Otters with two shots each. CSUMB netminder
Evan Drake (Sacramento, Calif./El Camino HS) recorded four saves, but could not keep Chico State off the board.
Monterey Bay ends the 2015 season with final records of 8-8, 5-7 CCAA.
