(San Bernardino, CA) Playing the #1 ranked team in NCAA Division II for the second consecutive match, CSUMB Volleyball fell to CSU San Bernardino by scores of 13-30, 27-30, 14-30 on Friday evening.

CSUSB (9-0) was voted #1 in the latest CSTV/AVCA Division II poll over previous top ranked Tampa, the Otters opponent in the final match of the Coaches Choice/Otter Classic on Sept. 1.

Game 2's performance was the highlight of the match for CSUMB.  The Otters came back with an improved passing performance to play point by point with CSUSB before falling 27-30.  The Otters hit .300 as a team with 16 kills and only 4 errors for the game.

"Our game 2 performance was empowering for our team and coaches, " said head coach Jody Garry. "We need to carry that intensity with us and build a complete match. CSUSB is obviously a great team, but we really need to focus on our side of the net because every night in the CCAA we will face a quality opponent."

CSUMB was led by senior Christine Ricketts' 8 kills and .667 hitting percentage. Senior Courtney Taubert added 7 kills (.286).  The Otters were out hit by the Coyotes .169 to .400 for the match.

"Christine continued to be impressive tonight as she has all season.  I expect her to be one of the best middles in the conference as this year continues, " said Garry. "When we pass well, her stats will show it because we are able to set her the ball.  San Bernardino's serving game kept us off balance all match and forced us into too many out of system plays."

Leading the way for #1 CSUSB was reigning CCAA Player of the Week Jessica Granados with 12 kills (.269).  Jane Chafeh recorded a team high 14 kills (.346) and Meghan Hass had 14 digs.

CSUMB continues CCAA play tomorrow at Cal Poly Pomona at 7 pm.
