(Chico, CA)  CSUMB men's soccer is back.

After a disappointing 2006 season riddled with injuries, the Otters started 2007 in spectacular fashion beating Chico State 1-0 on the road Friday.

Junior Andrew Burkhammer's left footed floater from 35 yards out beat the Wildcats' goalkeeper high for the lone goal in the 1-0 victory for the Otters.  Junior goalkeeper Brenden Baca had a tremendous save in the match's 82nd minute to secure the victory for CSUMB.

"Our team played inspired and determined against a very good Chico State program, " said head coach Artie Cairel. "These guys have been hungry to make a statement like this in the conference since last year. I said two words after the match...we're back.  It was great team effort and we need to carry this intensity and high level of play through the weekend."

The Otter's (1-0, 1-0 CCAA) road trip continues as they travel to take on Cal State Stanislaus Sunday.
