(SEASIDE, Calif.)  Courtney Taubert's game high 16 kills led Cal State Monterey Bay as the Otters posted a 20-30, 30-25, 30-27, 30-27 win over Sonoma State Wednesday night at the Otter Sports Center gymnasium.  CSUMB (3-11) improves to 2-2 in CCAA play while SSU (5-8) falls to 1-3 in the conference.

Kendra Miller and Brittany Etchings added 12 and 11 kills respectively for the Otters.  Freshman setter Juliette Ward recorded 43 assists and 3 aces while Melissa Nickas had a team high 26 digs on the night.

"I was impressed at how we responded after game one, " said head coach Jody Garry. "We started the match slow but came back to play well and execute our game plan.  We competed as a team point to point and served aggressively."

Garry pointed to the play of Ward, Nickas and sophomore outside hitter Kerri Sudarsana as keys in the turnaround after game one. Sudarsana had 9 kills and 10 digs in her most extensive playing time of the season.

"We changed up the line up and they stepped in and performed very well, " said Garry. "I was excited to see Kerri play well...the best is yet to come for her.  She is a talented athlete and this is a great performance for her to build on."

The Seawolves were led by Marianne Fox's 14 kills while Kristy Sather, Kaylee Aizenstadt and Sarah Illingsworth each had 11 kills for the match.

CSUMB hosts Dixie State tomorrow night in non-conference play.  First serve is slated for 7pm at the Otter Sports Center gymnasium.
