Otters Split Series with Sonoma State

[BOX SCORE GAME 1]
[BOX SCORE GAME 2]

CSUMB split a doubleheader with Sonoma State to close out the CCAA portion of their schedule. The Otters (21-38, 8-28 CCAA) have surpassed their total (20) and conference (6) win mark from last season.

The Otters got three of their five hits in the 4th inning when they took the lead for good. Jill Artoff had an RBI single and then got 2 more runs home when the Sonoma left fielder could not handle it. The Otters added an insurance run in the fifth when junior Megan Luna hit her first career home run. Jessica Boyle struck out five to get her 15th win of the year.

Like Friday's games, the second one belonged to the Seawolves. Trying to keep their CCAA tournament hopes alive, Sonoma State (28-29, 14-18 CCAA) used 11 hits to open up a 7-0 lead. The Otters had five of their eight hits in the last two innings to get a comeback started, but could only lower the deficit by two runs. Leann Wacker and Megan Russo each had RBI hits in the sixth to get scores for the Otters. Jessica Wardle had 2 steals to supplement her 2-3 day hitting. Her 24 steals on the season set a new CSUMB record. The Otters end their season with a home doubleheader Friday against Grand Canyon before travelling to Notre Dame de Namur on Sunday.
