The CSUMB Otters played a close first game at the Triple Crown Sports tournament today as they opened with a 4-3 loss to Western New Mexico University. The Mustangs came out strong, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Mustangs then scored again in the fourth inning again with runs by Drahota and Usher. The Otters did get on the scoreboard until the third inning when they scored with a two-run homer by Kristin Rassmusen with Alexis Villarin on second. Ashlee Trotter hit in the Otters' last run in the fourth inning with another home-run. The Otters struggled throughout the last 4 innings, only twice getting a runner in scoring position. Pitching for the Otters was Jessica Boyle who struck out eight in a solid seven innings with only two walks.
