[BOX SCORE GAME 1]
[BOX SCORE GAME 2]
Bad luck plagued the Otters as they fell twice to No. 9 Sonoma State by a combined three runs on Saturday.
In the first game, CSUMB scored first on Gerry Rommel's RBI double. Sonoma State (34-5, 18-2 CCAA) took the lead with 2 runs in the third, but the Otters tied it when Budd Glock singled and the Seawolves committed a throwing error. The Seawolves added 2 runs in the fourth and 3 in the sixth to make it 7-3. After CSUMB cut it to 7-6, the hosts added an insurance run in the eighth for the final 8-6 score. Grayson Adams took the loss despite striking out seven batters in five innings.
The second game resulted in the closest call the Seawolves have had during their 21-game win streak. The Otters led for most of the game, going up 2-0 on a "sacrifice double play" fielder's choice in the first and a Rommel single in the 3rd. Patrick McClain scattered 7 hits and struck out six batters in six innings of work, and then ceded pitching duties in the 7th and final inning with the Otters up 4-3. The bullpen however allowed a bases-loaded walk to tie it and then allowed the winning run on a wild pitch. CSUMB (12-28, 7-22 CCAA) next plays UC San Diego in a four-game series in Seaside beginning on Friday April 13th.
