Top-ranked Cal State Los Angeles shut down the Otter bats and rallied for a 16-9 victory in 11 innings. The Golden Eagles stay atop the CCAA standings with a 25-3-1, 15-1 record. CSUMB is now 10-24, 7-17 in league play.
After CSULA opened with three runs in the 1st inning, it was all CSUMB for the next five innings. Budd Glock and Garrett Lyons had RBI singles to make it 3-2, and the Otters took the lead in the 3rd with three runs on four hits. The lead was extended to 9-4 in the 4th inning. However, it would be the last time the Otters scored as they only had five of their 11 hits from the 5th inning on. CSULA tied it at 9-all with three runs in the sixth inning. In the 11th inning, CSULA scored 7 runs on 3 hits and five walks, including 4 straight walks with the bases loaded.
Glock finished the game 3-6 with 4 RBI and Gerald Rommel went 4-6 with one RBI. Patrick McClain struck out eight batters in 5/ 1/3 innings of work. For CSULA, Fernando Franco went 3-5 with 4 RBI and Jeff Carroll went 3-5 with a RBI triple. CSUMB takes a break from league play with a doubleheader at Bethany on Saturday starting at high noon.
