CSUMB Baseball Upsets No. 1 Cal State Los Angeles, 12-9

[BOX SCORE]

At three hours, fifty minutes, it was the longest game in CSUMB's eighty-six game baseball history. And the Otter faithful loved every minute of it.

CSUMB banged out 14 hits, including five in an eighth inning rally to defeat No. 1 Cal State L.A. 12-9. The Golden Eagles fall to 22-3-1, 12-1 in the CCAA. CSUMB goes to 10-21, 7-14 and won their third straight home game after an 0-8 start at home this year.

The Otters rallied from a 5-2 deficit with four runs in the 4th to take a one run lead. The Otters led 8-6 before Jeff Carroll, the leading hitter in the CCAA, nailed a 2 RBI double in the 8th to give the Eagles a 9-8 lead. The Otters kept their composure and opened the bottom of the 8th with 3 straight doubles from Gerald Rommel, Brian Trump and Jacob Roe. Lucas Allendorf (2-1) pitched two innings of relief and struck out Mike Diaz with the bases loaded to end the game and get the hard-earned win.

Carroll finished 2-5 with 3 RBI for the Golden Eagles to remain above .400 hitting for the year, but the middle of the CSULA lineup was held to 1-14 hitting in the game. Rommel went 2-4 (both doubles) with 2 RBI, while Roe was 2-5 with 3 RBI. The teams play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 11:00am.
