Otters Lose 5-14 to No. 2 Chico State

The CSU Monterey Bay Otters fell in their CCAA opener to second-ranked Chico State 14-5. Making their first visit to Seaside, The Wildcats (16-1, 4-1 CCAA) got a CSUMB-opponent record 22 hits en-route to their fourth straight win.

CSUMB (6-12, 3-6 CCAA) managed 15 hits but stranded 9 runners and struck out 12 times. Carl Fairborn and Daniel Code both had home runs in the game for the Wildcats. Hometown product Rocky Russo - playing in first game as an Otter - went 1-4 with two RBI's and a home run . Also homering for CSUMB was Nick Zaballos, the Otters' career home run leader at 11. The two teams face off again tomorrow at 11am and 1pm for a doubleheader at the Otter ballpark.
